Earth Day Optics Workshop

Dr. J. Wayne Wooten
20 April 2019
Time: 10 AM until 4 PM

As a part of the 2019 Earth Day celebration in Seville Square, the Escambia Amateur Astronomers will set up scope for solar observing and smartphone photography.  We will also distribute star charts and our summer gaze schedule.  Our sponsor, Draco Productions, will have 20 STEM spyglass kits for families to assemble for teaching the basics of refractor telescopes.  They come with a safe solar filter for solar observing and eclipses.  If the builders want to keep the spyglass, it is $15, and a replacement will be built for Ciencia Puerto Rico.  Otherwise, the builders will fill in a donor certificate to accompany their completed and custom decorated scope to the elementary students in the Maria devastated schools of Puerto Rico.  To date, 65 of these spyglasses have already been shipped to San Juan and Ciencia PR.  Draco will have a meteorite display as well, and those completing the kits will get a free tektite (Moldovite, green space glass!)
