The Astrocamp Observatory Services and the Astronomical League of the Philippines just held a successful Meteors Without Borders Event the night of December 13 to the early morning of December 14.

MwB Philippines by Astrocamp Observatory, ALP, & Celestron

The ALP group in Astrocamp Observatory saw 48 geminid meteors and 9 of them were imaged by Andrew Ian Chan and 2 by Bobby Parhizkari. There were around 17 clients + 8 ALPers + 8 friends who joined the event plus some 100 passersby given free views of the moon and Castor through a Celestron Nexstar 4SE! The event was supported by meals and tarpaulins provided by Cutting Edge Store who also brought in the Nexstar 4SE for the free public viewing of the  moon and star Castor!

The event was broadcast via twitter using the hash tags #geminids2010 and #geminidshower

Avivah Yamanih of Indonesia participated and gave twitter updates but have to retire early because of very cloudy sky over at Bandung Indonesia.

University of the Philippines Astrosociety (UP Astrosoc) and University of the Philippines Los Banos Astrosociety (UPLB Astrosoc) also participated by joining in the twitter updates using the agreed hash tags set by Astronomers Without Borders' Thilina Heenatigala.

The UPLB meteor shower observation of the member batch Batch Nebula saw and recorded 124 Geminids from around 11pm to 2am local time. They saw the most number of meteors that night in the Philippines!

ALP Members and Cutting Edge representatives posed for posterity during Meteors Without Borders 2010

AWB members from different countries monitored and communicated with each other using twitter and the hash tags agreed by them to use during the event. It was a blast! Not only AWB members were able to monitor the event but all followers of the hash tags mentioned were given up to the minute reporting of the Geminid Meteor Shower as observed on that night!

See the images from this event in the Galleries of AWB site!
