12-13-14 August 2016 As many astronomy societies did, we, Hacettepe Astronomy Society, have attended the festival held in Olimpos/Antalya with the collaboration of Kozmik Anafor, Bilimfili and Evrim Agacı. This special festival has hosted many people from different cities. On the first day of the festival, we gave a course about astrophotography, both theoretical and practical at the workshops. Also, in the same day we have made, with participants, solar observation. Later that night, we observed the passing of ISS, which was an event. We also watched a film named ‘'Contact'', a film adaption of Carl Sagan's book. On the... Read More...

We have finished with success the project " Astronomie en Equilibre " on June 26, 2016. We have had the last radio emission show about basic astronomy for Haitians. The last topic discussed was the Big Bang theory, explaining the most accepted guess of the origin of the Universe. We had had a total of 26 show episodes made, each Thursday at 6hPM, made principally by Dr Rulx Narcisse (the founder and actual President of the Haitian Astronomical Society) and sometime present at the show was MarcRony Deroses, a young enthusiast about astronomy. We have made some special celebrations in... Read More...

Stargazing on La Palma Island is one of the finest astronomical experiences possible. The small volcanic island in the Atlantic Ocean is part of the European country Spain, has a modern airport, very nice accommodations, good infrastructure and offers impressively dark skies. Due to a very restrictive lighting policy, outdoor lights on La Palma are well shielded and the nighttime sky still looks how it should: dark and full of stars. First time visitors to La Palma are often overwhelmed by the pristine skies of the island. For those who want to enjoy the full show, we compiled a list... Read More...

Saludos! Now is the time to go out at night and see the splendid Summer Milky Way. These days it stretches across the whole sky already by the end of the evening twilight. Our interactive full-sphere image shows how this looks from a truly dark observing site. The bright galactic center hovers above the pitch black volcanic landscape of La Palma island. The full band of the Milky Way is clearly visible as it crosses the zenith. Where the sky above the horizon isn't illuminated by the faint orange glow of Los Llanos the Aridane it sparkles with iridescent green airglow.... Read More...

The Manila Street Astronomers conducted a public lecture event last July 17 at the National Museum Planetarium. The lecture was entitled The Moon and How to Observe It and was given by MSA core team members Christopher Louie Lu and Norman Marigza. The MSA event was originally designed for the cast and crew (volunteers); but as the advocacy of MSA goes, we aim to make astronomy accessible to the public. Our original estimate was for 20 individuals, which later became 50 the day before the event. We were setup at the NMP Library which soon became a full-house during the... Read More...

I recently purchased a Lunt 80mm Ha scope and have been enjoying viewing the Sun as of late. With the Sun approaching solar minimum the surface is pretty quite in normal white light. As of this writing on July 4th we've had 11 days of no sunspots visible on the surface. But when viewed in H-Alpha light the sun shows a great deal of detail with small prominence's popping up on the surface and along the edge. Another exciting thing to do when viewing the Sun is to watch for transit's of the International Space Station. Finding out when they... Read More...
