a few months after I met Astronaut Abby I got to know UAE's gonna send a probe to Mars and that is when I knew UAE had a space agency, then I got a message from MR. Ibrahim Al Qasim, the deputy project manager of the Emirates Mars Mission and the project manager of the Nayif-1 cube sat mission, asking me to visit the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC). I was really excited. Then the next year they had a space event called Mission: Space at downtown Dubai. There I met the Mars Mission project manager MR. Omran Sharaf... Read More...
2014 was the year all my hard work started to pay off, During the test launch of Orion space craft the announcer said some words that were really emotional and inspiring he said something like, “Go delta. Go Orion. This is the dawn of Orion, the dawn of America's new age of space travel” the following year I joined twitter as an aspiring astronaut and got to know many kids who had the same dream and I started to get noticed. The first person I met was Mackenzie as @JrAstronaut who supported me and inspired me. Then I met Astronaut... Read More...
At a very young age around my 7th year of standing on this planet, I dreamt of travelling through the stars. Right now I live in the United Arab Emirates, where 6 years ago when I was a third grader during a science class on the solar system, I happened upon a picture of the Milky Way and at that moment our teacher was explaining about living in space. After the class I went through what had been taught that day and I wanted to be a part of NASA's space program, so I talked to people around me and... Read More...
AOYA kids have skilfully captured this wide field image of the constellation Orion with much of its surroundings in the western skies right after nightfall. The Zodiacal Light is very evident in this image too as it stretches in the bottom up untill the middle of the frame. In the coming few days our dedicated members will continue their efforts to capture more vivid images of this interesting celestial phenomenon. Of course phtography through a telesopes will never serve this purpose, therefore our kids will endeavour to capture it through a low power camera body and zoom only. Read More...

Close to 700 friends from over 40 countries have "jumped across borders" to be together in the new "Astrónomos sin Fronteras" page in Facebook. In just 2 weeks, we shared over 30 new posts in Spanish including GAM events, tips to look at the night sky and much more. We also received contributions from our fans, such as this picture from Mario Casadei, a resident of Argentina, who captured Jupiter and 3 of its satellites by just hanging his mobile from his 4.5-inch telescope. Come and join us at: www.facebook.com/astronomossinfronteras You will "like it" ! Read More...

Color filters are of great help when observing the planets with a telescope. They help discern small and low-contrast features on the planetary discs. But there are so many color filters available that one can easily get lost. Even the manufacturers' recommendations are of no great help, since they are mostly for larger apertures of eight inch and more. Here we present a recommended filter set that matches perfectly with a small telescope. The filters #8 light yellow, #21 orange, #80A blue and Baader Neodymium are an ideal combination for planetary observing with a small refractor, Maksutov or Newtonian telescope.... Read More...
Greetings: We want to thank all the people who gathered to enjoy a astronomical educational talk with telescopes projected on a giant screen in the "Earth Hour Earth" in the Passive Park in Urb. AOYA in Erbil, KRG (Northern Iraq) gathers school kids regularily to teach them the fundemental basics of Astronomy. AOYA usually arranges night time observation sessions too. This image of the Great Nebula in Orion; Messier 42 was shot through Celestron Nexstar 8" SE and a Canon DSLR camera in a 20 second exposure by our members a few weeks ago. We're poor in resources however but we do have the passion to further increase the awareness of the importance of Astronomy among the humble people of Kurdistan. Read More...
Read More...

This dazzling shot of the moon was captured last night by Roaya Astro, Showing the fine line between the bright and dark sides of the moon. It is quite hard to miss noticing the numerous craters on the surface of the moon, which were caused by the unavailability of a prober atmosphere that works as a shield towards meteors. Moreover, these craters has maintained their current shapes for long periods of time due to the rather slow denudation on the moon. Translated by: Nedal N. Elhassan Read More...
On the evening of March 6, 2016 a spectacular meteor was seen over Upper Austria and Bavaria. Part of the all-sky image showing the fireball of March 6 obtained by the automatic digital all-sky fireball camera at the station of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute in Kocelovice (photo: ASÚ AV ČR). Michael Krippner, a member of our community “ Linzer Astronomische Gemeinschaft ” (LAG) , AWB-affiliate since 2009, has discovered the first fragment of the dropped down meteorite on 12 March. A lecture was delivered to Girl Scouts by one of Roaya members, Ali Algargori, within a workshop held in Benghazi. The lecture started with a brief summary about the assembly's activities. Mr. Algargori then explained about the size of planets within the solar system and briefly presented the milky-way and some other galaxies attached with pictures of the planets and other stars and orbs. Finally, he demonstrated the way of locating stars using apps like "Google-Skymap" and other useful applications. Read More...

REGISTER YOUR GAM EVENT HERE Yesterday I gave a lecture about the Global Astronomy Month in my hometown Linz. I talked about the upcoming GAM2016 and something about the history of GAM and former events here in the "Wissensturm " (meaning "tower of knowledge") of Linz. It houses a common college and the big public library of the city. Following some screenshots of my presentation: Everything started in the International Year of Astronomy 2009 ... and GAM is now a kind of followup of the big global event "100 hours of Astronomy" ...... a living proof for the sustainability of...
