That gray veil of dusty wind tickles my ears again. It whispers a nostalgic sovereignty of a dull atmosphere around everyone of us. Few steps then, I’m off to school. Technically, just on my way as I take my initial steps in this UV shelter. It is a long way as my eyes pay attention to this narrow way of covered pathway, it sure looks different but at least our local government finally had it accomplished. It is in no doubt an answer to those three young folks died due to skin cancer, the one aged 16, the others at... Read More...

The time distribution of an era : - Four steps are becomes in one large era. Their names & time duration is given as follows. Satya era = 1728000solar years, tretaa era = 1296000solar years, dwaapara era = 864000solar years, kali era = 432000solar years, Sum of above four eras are becomes equal to one large era. One large era = 4320000solar years. Thousands of large eras are becomes equal to one Kalpa. According to ancient Indian astronomy, from beginning of Kali era to beginning of shake era had elapsed 3179 solar year & at present time of shake era... Read More...
On september 22 2012, I went to Dinant (from Namur, following the Meuse beautiful valley) whe re the Cercle Astronomique Mosan (CAM) held its International Observe the Moon Night. The CAM has an observatory and they aimed their big refractor to the Moon and the image was shown on a TV screen for details. The Moon was never high in the sky, so there was lots of turbulence. A dozen of visitors came and enjoyed the scenery, our telescopes, a setup to show why peakes can form long shadows and a bucket with sand to show what happens when a... Read More...
We hosted a “Hasta la Vesta” event to celebrate the Dawn mission moving on from a successful year studying its first target, Vesta, and starting its journey to the second target, Ceres. We used a lot of resources from NASA's Hasta La Vesta website: http://dawn.jpl.nasa.gov/news/hasta_la_vesta_games_activities.asp We started with an introductory talk on the Solar System, to ensure everyone was clear what asteroids are, and the location of the main asteroid belt. Since our first visitors were families with young children, the parents teamed up with the children for our “Grape or Raisin” activity. Here participants compared the attributes of their... During this years AEC-festivial (Slogan: THE BIG PICTURE - Creating a new conception for the world) some very famous "Astronomy- People" visited Linz again personaly "in real life" and virtual. At the instance of Dietmar Hager ( http://www.stargazer-observatory.com/ ) the AEC invited Warren Keller ( http://www.billionsandbillions.com/ ) and Damian Peach ( http://www.damianpeach.com/ ) to Linz. These famous astrophotographers gave on Saturday lectures about their outstanding astrophotographic work. On Sunday we had a live-skype connection to La Silla to the world best exoplanet telescope: ESO telscope - HARPS (High Accuracy Radial velocity Planet Searcher).Dr. Juri Beletsky and another scientiest gave us... Hello, On thursday 9th, many clubs gathered at the country's Space Camp, the Eurospace Center, near France and Luxemburg. For most of the afternoon, my PST was used to show details on the surface of the Sun and lots of people had a look at our star. I dressed up in my astronaut blue suit (at least I can do that once a year) and was interviewed by RTL-TVI, the french speaking national commercial TV station. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYKbkx3zMmY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2_C686Pt8Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4dWdDFNnWg Later, we went inside to avertize about our astronomy clubs (we have tables and cables for our PC's) and after sunset,... The Austrian Astronomy&Space-Club ORION , who is running an German written APOD-mirror since about 5 Years invited for a special event in an old castle in Lower Austria. Jerry Bonnell and Babak Tafreshi followed this invitation and they gave some great lectures. This was a very familar and sociable meeting to talk, to discuss, to relax and to observe. Luckily we had the possibility to observe some Perseids during the last night. We had enough holes in the clouds :-) Of course Babak took as usual some nice TWAN-images we hopefully can see next time. In the meantime following a... Read More...

Caused by 2 things I decided to join this year EWASS (European Week of Astronomy and Space Sience, 1-6-July 2012)). The first was the short time e-mail invitation by Rosa Doran to AWB-members (from 14.05.2012) to join here GTTP Session at special EWASS-fee in combination with the special session devoted to European astronomy education and the second was the fact that I have dedected Thilinas name on the list of registered participants. So in the same night I had to decide and I booked online a train ticket and a cheap hotel in Rome and did my registration.... and it... Read More...
A Naturalist looks at Comets (Reminiscences of a Sri Lankan Comet Chaser) Rex I. De Silva My interest in observational astronomy was first aroused when I bought a small terrestrial refractor in January 1968. With it and a copy of Norton's Star Atlas (1966 ed.) I commenced a personal survey of the night sky. More than two years passed before I saw my first comet. Perhaps in the long run this was a good thing as when a comet finally did appear I had a reasonably good working knowledge of the night sky and observing techniques. Comet Bennet arrived in... We had a wonderful time during the important event of astronomical history “Venus Transit 2012” at Fasa University. Most of engineering students were very enthusiastic to know more about the Venus planet. Some audiences came because they knew next Venus Transit will happen in 2117. Soheil Salimi “the founder Astronomical Society of Fasa University” and “The Scientific & Educational Manager” at “The Scientific & Educational Department of ISAFU” (ISAFU or “Islamic Students Association of Fasa University” is an association that try to develop the science and outreach) introduced Mike Simmons( President of the Los Angeles Astronomical Society (LAAS), founding President... Following a short review of my (global & local) impressions and some picts of our local short Venus-transit-event organized by members of our local astronomy association (LAG) ..... Here in Austria it was a very short event but we had luck to see something of this rare event (about 1 hour). Unfortunately due to clouds we could not see the 3rd and 4th contact. Sunrise Linz 05:04 MESZ Egress Interior - 06:37 MESZ Egress Exterior - 06:55 MESZ To see the whole transit I used various sources by internet, of course the great AWB-webcast from Mt. Wilson too. “THE SUN HAS A POINT” Said a child excited to see for the first and last time this charming and mysterious astronomical phenomenon, the passage of a planet from the Sun, is a very interesting event that we saw and photographed with great splendor, clouds Bogota gave permission for observation. He gave a short introduction where I explain the importance of the phenomenon to human civilization because measurements are determined as: the first realistic estimates of the size of the sun, and the distance between it and Earth. Venus's orbit is tilted 3.4 ° from the orbit of the Earth,... Read More...
