Last month, on October 28th, we had a chance to have starparty and astronomy session with PSB Singapore School students for 7 grade level. It was our first time to have a starparty with international school in Indonesia. And it was fun indeed. PSB Singapore school was in their lesson trip from Jakarta to Bandung, and they had outbound activities, and also an astronomy activities at night. Although we started late on 9.30 but the students weren't tired at all. I think. They came to the villa after dinner and we swap our plan to have astronomy session in the... Read More...

Last night was a long ago programmed belgian Night of Darkness, to bring awareness of the Light Pollution to the public. As it happened at the same time as "Beauty Without Borders", it was easy to combine both events. This time, they took place saturday 16 in Brussels, capital of Belgium at a park, called the Red Cloister at Auderghem. http://www.virtourist.com/europe/brussels/48.htm One thing we needed, was a clear sky.....Well, we got it before the visitors would leave the place! We had conferences about the light pollution issue, two of my club were giving astronomy lectures on astronomy and my "Beast",... Read More...
During the first week-end of october 2010, the frenchspeaking amateur astronomers federation organized a study about various ways to show stars for educational purposes. It happened in a very beautiful Walloon village, near the french border, at Vierves-sur Viroin. We learned how to create, with paper, scissors and glue a planisphere, an animated zodiac (showing the difference between the astrological and the astronomical zodiacs). We also leanrned how to build a star counter (we cut a 12 cm wide hole in a paper, attach a 26 cm long thread to it, put the other end in our mouth and close... Read More...
September 18, 2010, although we were in 2 weeks holiday for Eid Mubarak, langitselatan decide to hold a gathering session for InOMN (International Observe of Moon Night) and this gathering was also meant as "silaturahmi" session. In Indonesia, during Eid Mubarak, we had "silaturhami" custom. This is a custom of family gathering in Indonesia during Eid Mubarak and also during Christmas. But because Christmas is only a short holiday, most people in Indonesia use Eid Mubarak holiday to have this custom. So, our group decide to have this gathering session as a family in astronomy too. It start with a... Read More...
The 18th started out with very bright sunlight in Kingston and we expected a good night. But by 6 PM clouds started to gather. We however went to our site at Up Park Camp at six and set up Telescopes. There were intermittent Clouds over the Moon and Venus. While waiting for the clouds to open, we advised the guests to watch with a clearance in the West North West for the appearance of the Space Station On the dot of 6.50pm. Someone shouted and it appeared in small gap in the clouds. It went behind the cloud but reappeared... Read More...

Hey there, fellow Astronomers Without Borders... We tried to hold our Star Party at The Tiger Boys Open House, (a fly-in for antique aircraft held at Guelph AirPark in Ontario, Canada) on the Saturday night, but it started pouring rain right at sunset. Rather than give up, we opted to try again the following night and were rewarded with exactly the opposite conditions – the clouds departed at sunset! I had my friend, Gord Skerratt's, 10” Meade LX-200 – equipped with the sensational MallinCam – locked onto the Moon before the sun went down. So people leaving the Air Show... Read More...

A severe and lengthy rainstorm over Accra threatened to wash out International Observe the Moon Night at the Ghana Planetarium, but luckily the rain stopped in mid-afternoon, just in time for the 5pm start of our event. The attendees were a good mixture of families with children, Physics students from the University and others including many for whom it was the first visit to the Planetarium. We started with a short cartoon (from the UNAWE website), “Who Saved the Moon” which was enjoyed by all. We then went through the “Earth-Moon statistics” presentation from the InOMN website, using young volunteers... Read More...
The clubs here didn't organize anything for this event sadly, and I was gone for the week before and not there to spur things on. So, I took my 10 inch Dob to the little tiny strip mall in the next village and did a small event there. It was late and not many people around but 4 adults and 2 teenagers got a good look at the moon, Jupiter, and Uranus, which was a thrill to them since none of them had ever looked through a telescope before. - Joan Chamberlin Greater Portland Astronomical Society Astronomical Society of Northern... Here in our city we had the sky with clouds and wasn't possible to see the Moon. We organized a video-conference in honor of prof. Marcomede Rangel Nunes. We used the Astronomers without Borders Adobe system. Thanks Mike and Paul!!! Was an unforgettable experience. We had participants from 3 countries and from many Brazilian States. Many people and groups participated only for few minutes and many participated for more time. I made the registration of a part of the participants (I apologize to the other participants, but I only made the registration few minutes before we finished the video-conference. Was... Read More...

All seven moon viewing events in Ireland were clouded out, everyone was very disappointed not to be part of InOMN 2010. They all called for the event to be more than one day next year to give us a chance of a clear sky. - Deirdre Kelleghan ( AWB NC for Ireland) Read More...
Here is the illustration of how we do what we do. The moon on the ceiling is a rough composite to show the setup. The camera/adapter/lense combination is a temporary setup to show what's possible. Any old camera lense and telescope eyepiece seems to work, and just needs an adapter tube. I plan on that setup being a guiding system with a screen available to the public also, to see the objects ahead of the actual naked eye view, at public events. With NSN we have a facility that works, it also works well for re-streaming, and we now know... Read More...

Well, a rotten night over much of New Zealand for InOMN, but we went ahead with the indoor portion of our event in Levin anyway. Only a small number of people braved the weather to pay us a visit, and many would've assumed that it would not have been on at all. Anyway, we had an enjoyable night, and those that did come and see us didn't leave disappointed. I have put together a video of the event, which can be found at:- Mike White Levin, New Zealand Read More...
Broadcast the moon about 40 mins after local moonrise, as soon as it got above the mountains and clouds. Had massive gales and rain and long blue clear patches, a cold snap, and had to cancel outdoor events. All good though, built new relationships and strengthened older ones, had extensive communications with our astro communities here, many positive responses, although some big gaps of nothing still! Webcast on and off live for first 4 hours, broadcast recorded moon for another 4hrs because massive cloud, and also shared Australian stream for a few hours. Managed to webcast the last of our... Read More...
