MIHAI VITEAZUL’S DOORS
Astro-photo-poem (cosmopoem) by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe
The first unifier of the Romanian medieval states,
Mihai Viteazul (the Brave),
made a spectacular monastery on a hill in Bucharest
in the 1590s,
which seemed like a veritable fortress.
In the 1980s the dictatorial regime
demolished the hill and the fortress,
but Mihai Viteazul’s church
was moved 300 m on tracks
by the courageous engineer Eugen Iordachescu.
Those who visit the church today
can remark two sculptures on its doors:
the Moon
as a superior caress…
…and the Sun
as a supreme caress.
