      Global Astronomy Month 2012 at Pasargad

Since besides improving astronomy ,one of the goals of Astronomers Without Borders  is to develop world peace through the programs such as "30 Nights of StarPeace"  in GAM 2012 under the motto One People*One Sky, Astronomical Society of Pasargad Sky has decided to have inauguration of Global Astronomy Month 2012 near the tomb of a man who issued the first human right code (The Cyrus Cylinder), by the way ,Mr Simmons the President of AWB and his friends held their "2004 Venus Transit " observations here that is our honor.

The tomb of Cyrus in Pasargad is a 2500-year old World Heritage Site
in southern Iran. Pasargad was the first capital of the Achaemenid
Empire, the capital of Cyrus the Great (600-530 BC) and also his last
resting place. At the height of its power, the Achaemenid Empire
encompassed spanned three continents, as far west as Libya to nearly
all Middle East, and to Central Asia. Cyrus left an everlasting legacy
on leadership as he respected the local people and their freedom, and
the customs and religions of every lands he conquered. This is a
prominent part in the history of liberty and human rights.   ( Babak

Astronomical Society of Pasargad Sky decided to start the world's
largest global celebration of astronomy, Global Astronomy Month 2012
(GAM 2012), next to The tomb of Cyrus the Great at Pasargad.
At first Soheil Salimi a member of Astronomical Society of Pasargad
Sky introduced GAM2012 programs to audiences and students then he
spoke about the beautiful consequent of astronomy “Love and Peace” .
Asghar Kabiri the Manager and Leader of Astronomical Society of
Pasargad Sky who accomplished 2006 Amateur Outreach Award told the
interviewer about the goals of GAM2012 programs and pronounced the
events of this month.
Hamed Zareh another member of Astronomical Society of Pasargad Sky
spoke about the Sun and its missions.
Children and students eagerly wanted to repeat their observations and
were be very happy when they got educational posters.
Zahra Heidari another person of our astronomical society answered
students' questions about solar system.

 

                                         

                                                            A Haft-Seen for GAM 2012
Haft-Seen or the seven 'S's is a traditional table setting of Nowruz ,the traditional Iranian spring celebration.

The Haft Seen items are:
1.Sabzeh - (Persian: سبزه‎)-wheat, barley, mung bean or lentil sprouts growing in a dish - symbolising rebirth
2.Samanu - (Persian: سمنو‎)-sweet pudding made from wheat germ - symbolising affluence
3.Senjed - (Persian: سنجد‎)-dried oleaster fruit - symbolising love
4.Sir - (Persian: سیر‎)- garlic - symbolising medicine
5.Sib - (Persian: سیب‎)- apples - symbolising beauty and health
6.Somāq - (Persian: سماق‎)sumac fruit - symbolising (the color of) sunrise
7.Serkeh - (Persian: سرکه‎) - vinegar - symbolising old-age and patience
We made Sabzeh of GAM 2012 logo with wheat for our Haft-Seen.
