ON 5 OCTOBER 2019, ON OCCASION OF WORLD SPACE WEEK 2019, THERE WAS AN ON THE SPOT SPEECH COMPETITION IN PERIYAR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CENTRE. THERE WAS A PARADE WITH MANY STUDENTS INVITING US INSIDE THE PLANETORIUM. MANY SCIENTISTS GAVE INSPIRING LECTURES ON SPACE AND HOW IT IS YET TO BE EXPLORED. THEY TOLD US "TO DO THINGS THAT ACTUALLY MATTER AND NOT JUST BE A WASTE OF SPACE AND MATTER." AFTER HEARING MANY EYE OPENING SPEECHES, STUDENTS OF CLASSES 6-12 HAD A SPEECH COMPETITION WHERE WE PICKED CHITS WITH TOPICS WRITTEN ON THEM AND GAVE IMPROPTU SPEECHES. I HAD RECIEVED THE TOPIC "SRIHARIKOTA ISRO, PISCO AND GSLV ROCKETS" WHICH I FOUND TO BE JUST AS INTERESTING AS IT WAS VAST AND CHALLENGING. I DIDNT KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN! MY COMPETITORS WERE EQUALLY EXPERIENCED AND KNOWLEDGABLE, IF NOT MORE AND GAVE ME A GOOD COMPETITION. IN AWE, MY EYES WERE AS WIDE AS THE MOON BY THE TIME THE COMPETITION WAS OVER. BUT EVERYONE HAD GREAT SPORTSMANSHIP AND GOOD SPIRIT EVEN AT THE END OF THE COMPETITION. IT WAS A GREAT EXPOSURE AND I LEARNT A LOT. I LOOK FORWARD TO GIVING A LECTURE AS AN AERONAUTIC SCIENTIST ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STAGE SOME DAY:)
