April is a rainy month in Spain, so it is a bad date to participate in the activities of GAM, but that does not mean that they stop doing activities. Here is a summary of the main activities: 01.- Conference: "El Sol" in the Navarra Association of Astronomy. 02.- Physics course and nanotechnology conference at the Astronomical Association of Madrid. 02.- Stellar spectroscopy workshop at the Sociedad Malagueña de Astronomía. 04.- Conference: "Survive in space" in the Malagueña Society of Astronomy. 05.- Activities at the Lodoso Observatories (Burgos), by the Astronomical Association of Burgos. On Saturday, April 6th, the Triel Observatory (located at the town of Triel, about 30 km west of Paris), organized its 12th Mega Star Party. Several regional clubs and amateur astronomers were present as well as many other visitors, including families. At the park of the observatory, there were a lot of exchanges and discussions, questions and answers about astronomy. At the auditorium, three conferences attracted a large audience : two conferences on the Apollo missions and one on astrophotography. There were also workshops organised for the children. Overall, the party was once again a success. Read More...
Infinite World is but a finite gesture from my side. It is my tribute to the joys of Mother Nature – and the warp and weft betwixt the celestial to the cosmic, the natural to the oceanic, the mountainous to the cumulus. A paean to Georgia from 'Laniakea' – home to the earth's magnificent Milky Way. Infinite World Read More...
Moon craters 1 Bonprand 2 Parry 3 Tolansky 4 Parry M 5 Fra Mauro Formation: Fra Mauro is a widespread hilly geological area covering large portions of the lunar surface around Mare Imbrium, and is thought to be composed of ejecta from the impact which formed Imbrium. The area is primarily composed of relatively low ridges and hills, between which exist undulating valleys. Much of the ejecta blanket from the Imbrium impact is covered with debris from younger impacts and material churned up by possible moonquakes. Debris found in the formation may have originated from deep beneath the original crust,... Read More...
Even with little attendance was made a look at the history of the Apollos and of course we talked about the film and about the person and the character Neil Armstrong. Rain sure has messed up the attendance a bit that does not make us sure that day 13 at CCBEU with Global Star Party will be a success like all previous editions of Global Star Party. We are going together Gunstar Team and CCBEU waiting for everyone for this super astronomy party in the 2019 Global Astronomy month. Read More...
To celebrate 10 years of GAM I am doing again a long distant trip with my car, similar to my first GAM-trip 2010 to Turkey, Syria and Jordan. My road trip during GAM2019 led me already from Austria to Iran. It's my personal attempt to point the way, to light a beacon of hope, to cherish unshakable on the idea of a world without borders, to keep alive the idea and message of “One People, One Sky“. Not only saying, but doing this message, crossing borders, breaking down frontiers, old ones and new ones. It's again a journey back to... Read More...

Institute of Astronomy, Colombo, Sri Lanka organized a series of workshops for school students regarding practical astronomy. During the workshop series, we taught about telescope usage, techniques of standard observation reports, theories of telescopes and observation astronomy (field of view, eyepieces, use of equatorial mounts, use of filters, use of star maps, astronomy cameras etc.). This workshop series is free of charge for students those who between 14 years to 19 years able to participate this event. In the matter of fact, we are able to obtain interest in observation field among the students. Duration:- 11/02/2019 - 15/02/2019 Read More...

OKI International School is one of the major international schools in Sri Lanka. They organized a science exhibition for school students. Organizers' goal is to raise awareness of STEM education and encourage the students to engage themselves in STEM subject related activities. Organizers invited the Institute of Astronomy, Colombo, Sri Lanka to be a part of this event. Our institute works as the astronomy knowledge and resource sharing partner. We included telescopes in order to give a basic idea to the students regarding how a telescope works and how to use it and also to expose the students to use... Read More...

Our optics workshop could not have been better! We built 30 spyglasses with Astronomers Without Borders to send to Ciencia Puerto Rico next week in only two hours 15 minutes, then used the rest of the time to let kids decorate them creatively. All who built or decorated filled in the donor form for the STEM teachers and students of Puerto Rico got a tektite specimen from our sponsor, Draco Productions. Many thanks to Sheryl Williams, Buddy Welker, Nicole and Chloe Gunter, Jacque Falzone, Marc Gordon, Ed Magowan, Lauren Rogers, and Chris Coats from the EAAA, and of course SaraBeth... Read More...

On Sunday, March 24, 2019, at 21:40 UT (18:40 EBT), several people observed a fireball with magnitude roughly -12. Some observers sent their data to International Meteor Organization and they are available here: https://fireballs.imo.net/members/imo_view/event/2019/1245 At least one video was recorded by an observer in Imbituba, Santa Catarina, Brazil, and is at this link: https://fireballs.imo.net/members/imo_video/view_video?video_id=2011 Preliminary results was published in our Newsletter Observe! , April 2019 issue, pages 16-17, available at this link: http://www.geocities.ws/costeira1/neoa/observe.pdf Read More...
Gunstar invites everyone to a super adventure of the global month of Astronomy 2019. With the largest project of dissemination of astronomy and practical observation in Goias the traveling telescope we will be observing the moon and with equipments for the great public to have their first with astronomy or with practical observation. The procession stages the prison of Jesus Christ and begins at 0:00 on Holy Thursday, with the public lighting turned off and the sound of drums, at the door of the Church of the Good Death, in the main square of the city. Nalanda College Astronomical Society (NCAS) and Nalanda College Alumni Astronomical Society (NCAAS) conducted its 349th night sky observation camp in Galahitiyawa Central College, Ganemulla, Srilanka. There were about 350 participants. Though the sky condition was no good at the start, it improved in the due course of the camp. Students were able to see moon and we guide them to map it. The students got the chance to observe Jupiter, Saturn and Venus. Furthermore, several deep sky objects including the butterfly cluster, lagoon nebula, M76, jewel box cluster, ptolomy cluster, alcor mizar star system were also observed. Apart from the... On 8th March 2019 Nalanda College Astronomical Society (NCAS) and Nalanda College Alumni Astronomical Society (NCAAS) conducted the 348th nigh sky observation camp at Dharmapala College Kottawa, Sri Lanka. Some lectures were given by members of our two societies (NCAS & NCAAS). The usual moon observations were not carried out since it was the new moon. However the lack of moonlight helped the participants to observe planets Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus and some Deep Sky objects including the Orion Nebula, butterfly cluster, lagoon nebula, jewel box cluster and the ptolomy cluster. Several group activities and lectures on "Introduction to Astronomy",... Read More...
reports of the media: The Brazilian government signed on Tuesday (March 18/2020) the Technological Safeguards Agreement, which allows the commercial use of the Alcântara base in Maranhão, with projects involving technology from the United States. L The partnership between the two countries has been discussed since 2000 when then Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso signed an agreement with the American George W. Bush. At the time, the proposal was barred by the National Congress, which claimed that AST, as the agreement is known, hurt national sovereignty. Currently, 80% of space artifacts have some American technology component. Without the agreement, they... Read More...
