One of our first documentary films was ”Autonomous”. In that film we wanted to capture the blurriness between what's real and what's not - through human like robots and virtual worlds in comparison with our own. This work woke a desire to create films in the area where sci-fi meets reality and where technology and science helps ask philosophical questions and give a new perspective on ourself. Trailer for our previous film Autonomous. We came across SETI, the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. We were thrilled! A cosmic investigation that are trying to answer one of the biggest questions for mankind,...

'I am pleased to welcome Swedish film makers Per Bifrost and Alexander Rynéus as our guest artists for October. Per and Alexander are currently working on a fascinating fictio-documentary called 'Earthling's Quest', focusing on SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) and METI (Messaging Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) research. Back in July I had the pleasure to interview them to discuss the content of the documentary in greater details. Per and Alexander will continue presenting their work throughout October, posting updates on the development of their project'. Daniela de Paulis. Interview: I see that you have been spending time and interviewing some of...

This week I started a new series of paintings in my ‘eARTh from space' collection called “Sunrise and Sunset from Space”. I am so thankful now for the pictures and videos from my spaceflight. One of the most visually stunning images and memories that sums...

Why on Earth (ha!) would you give up your astronaut job to be an artist? That's a question I've had a lot over the past year since retiring from NASA and the astronaut office. Believe me it was a difficult decision to make the retiring from the astronaut office part, not the artist part. I still pinch myself every day that by some act of God (really!) I was selected to be an astronaut. In fact, I pinch myself every day that I was blessed to do any and all of the incredible jobs I had with NASA...

I look forward to sharing some of my own artwork and the inspiration behind it as part of this blog series, but for this installment I would like to share a little bit about another AstroArts project I'm supporting. The project is called “Hope 1: The Space Suit Art Project”. My guess is that anyone reading this blog will agree that spaceflight and all that goes along with it is inspirational. This inspiration presents itself in so many ways - inspiring children to pursue an education and careers in STEM fields, inspiring innovative research and technology developments, inspiring cooperation between...
