On Thursday 19th of April, as part of the Second Student Astronomy Festival, Oman Astronomical Society organized for the first time an astronomical camp for people with hearing disabilities in cooperation with Oman Society for Hearing Impaired and Al-Amal School for the Deaf.
Participants with hearing disabilities enjoyed observing Moon, Venus and Jupiter, and then listened to explanation of constellations, determined the north by the stars by sign language, and learned some astronomical software that enabled the astronomer to know the celestial objects. They also learned about telescopes and how to use them. The next morning, the participants observed the sun and its sunspots.
At the end of the camp, the participants expressed their happiness at what they saw and monitored of celestial objects and what they learned in astronomy, hoping that this event will be repeated in the coming years.
