Mars will be closest to Earth in the early morning hours of July 31, 2018.
Griffith Observatory's All Space Considered team will bring the close approach live via LiveStream, starting at 10:00 p.m. through the closest approach at 12:45 a.m. and concluding at 2:00 a.m. on July 31.
A public event will also take place at Griffith Observatory beginning at 10:00 p.m. on Monday, July 30 with telescopes provided by the members of the Los Angeles Astronomical Society (LAAS). ADMISSION IS FREE. The event is on the grounds only; the Observatory building will be closed.
