Chennai Students Astroart Competition:
SPACE, as the pioneer in Astronomy education in India are celebrating Global Astronomy Month (GAM) 2019 is celebrated by Astronomers Without Borders (AWB), worldwide. The celebration by SPACE India is to bring new ideas and opportunities for people to participate in, strengthening AWB’s motto, One People, One Sky.
As a part of Global Astronomy Month SPACE Chennai has conducted an Inter School Astro Art Contest for Senior Category of students between Grade 8 to Grade 12 in regional level on 16th April 2019 at Sindhi Model Senior Secondary School with a participation of 35 students from 7 schools, 5 from each.
The Program was inaugurated by Ms. Victoria, Vice Principal of the school and she shared her inspirational words to the students.
35 Students from Seven schools, Sindhi Model Senior Secondary School-Kellys, DAV Public School-Velachery, SBOA School and Junior College-Anna Nagar, Bhavans Rajaji Vidyashram-Kilpauk, Vels Vidyashram-Pallavaram, Sri Krish International School-Kovur and St. John’s Public School-Medavakkam of Chennai had participated in Astro Art contest conducted at Sindhi Model Senior Secondary School.
Students has made their excellent arts and explored their passion in Astronomy and Space Sciences using their drawing and painting skills as a part of Global Astronomy Month(GAM), which was judged by a panel of Judges and the best three arts was awarded by prizes and certificates. All the Arts had been sent for International contest conducted by Astronomers Without Borders for which the results will be declared by June. We are hoping to get some winners from Chennai.
By participating in the contest, SPACE hope to create an amicable environment for the participants.
I st Place – S Haripriya, XI J of SBOA School and Junior College – Anna Nagar
II nd Place – Dhekkshit Tej S, IX A of St. John’s Public School - Medavakkam
III rd Place – G Sri Tharun, X B of Sri Krish International School – Kovur.
Special Mention Award – Tharika, VIII A of Bhavans Rajaji Vidyashram – Kilpauk.
At the end the winners of the contest were awarded with trophies and certificates given by Ms. Rukmini Principal of Sindhi Model Senior Secondary School and she also conveyed the wishes to all the participants and encouraged them for being a part of this Global Astronomy Month Celebration 2019.
