AstroFest 2020 Tbilisi 4 copy

On September 12, 2020, with the funding of #SRNSFG - Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia, organized by the Georgian Astronomy Club, an Astronomy Festival was held in the Rike Park amphitheatre, Tbilisi, Georgia.

Astronomical Festival "Astrofest - 2020" is a public event that includes popular lectures and telescope observations of celestial bodies (Sun, Jupiter, Saturn, constellations). The event is also sponsored by the official partner of #Celestron in Caucasus - #Planetarium. The event has no age restrictions and is completely free!

The Astronomy Club offered its telescopes to the attendees, though some brought their own optics. This is a good opportunity for those who want to practice the use of their telescope or binoculars properly, study the basics of Astrophotography and learn about astronomical educational materials available in Georgian.

The event started at 20.00 and lasted till 23.00. Attendees have the opportunity to observe Jupiter with Galilean moons, Saturn and Mars, also stars of the so called “Summer Triangle”: Vega, Deneb and Altair. Several lectures were given at the event: 1. President of Georgia Astronomy Club, Temo Kuchadze – “About GeorAstroClub and “AstroFest 2020” Project; 2. Founder of the Youtube “Dachi's Science Channel” Dachi Davitashvili – “Traveling through the Black Hole” (Black Holes, history, space, time and relativity); 3. Lukas Khutiashvili - "Briefly about Astronautics and Cosmonautics" (GAC); 4. MsSci of Physics at Tbilisi State University, Jemiko Manjgaladze – “Economics of Space Exploration”; 5. Project Coordinator Alexander Art-Dvali – “Making and operating your own telescope”.

The laser show of the constellations was led by #GSRA2020 astronomer Mariam (Marika) Tarasashvili. Due to the elevated number of the COVID-19 cases, event attendees were required to ware masks and keep the distance, so they kindly did. Souvenirs were not distributed this time. Photographing through the telescopes with mobiles was also canceled. Saturn video in the album was made by organizer.

The event in Tbilisi summarized all astronomy festivals organized within the frameworks of the “AstroFest – 2020” project, held before in 5 more Georgian cities (this year): Telavi, Gori, Kutaisi, Ozurgeti and Batumi.
