Transit of Mercury 2019

Join us on the final day of the Minnesota statewide Star Party and watch Mercury appear to cross the face of the sun. We will have telescopes with solar filters that allow you to safely view this rare event.

The transit starts at 6:35 am local time which is before sunrise at 7:24 am, so the transit will be well underway by the time the sun rises above the horizon for Fargo. The transit will continue until 12:04 pm. 

Assuming there is a chance of clear weather we will be on site until 12:00 noon to observe as much as possible of the event. The next transit that is visible from the United States doesn't occur until 2049, so don't miss this opportunity.
