Astronomers Without Borders is excited to implement the Building on the Eclipse Education program, in partnership with Astronomical Society of the Pacific and Science Technology Advanced Resource, Inc., through the generous support of Google. The program is designed to allow educators and their audiences to take a voyage of discovery using sunlight. Inspired by the total solar eclipse this August, you can continue to “look up” and learn more about the nearest star, our Sun. Join us in a network of educators and scientists to connect people through astronomy! |
This free program provides:
- Educational resources that address Next Generation Science Standards and build toward 3-dimensional instruction created by Astronomers Without Borders and Astronomical Society of the Pacific;
- A network of education and astronomy experts for discussion and ongoing support with activities and results;
- A virtual culminating interactive event showcasing student experiences with similar groups across the country;
- Educational tools to assist students in investigating the Sun, including solar viewing glasses and spectroscopes;
- Support for personalized peer-to-peer fundraising to cover group materials costs, if needed.

We suggest that you:
- Involve administrator, organizational leader, parents, kids, and partners in your decision. They can be inspiration and your biggest supporters;
- If you need help purchasing materials, read Guiding Materials about Classy and determine your fundraising goal;
- Join Trellis, our online community group of educators and astronomers, when you receive the invitation:
- Fill out your profile;
- Find discussions, activities, tips, and information about live and recorded professional development opportunities;
- Recruit participants for your program. This program can be implemented in multiple unique ways, but it may be most effective with a group that you can work with over at least a few sessions. This could be at an afterschool program, family workshop, summer camp, scout meetings or during regular classroom time;
- Plan the experience for your audience with the resources collected and created for this program;
- If you need help, find ideas and guiding suggestions on Trellis;
- Have fun while exploring the Sun!
- Plan for the culminating virtual event. Follow our guide for requesting and scheduling your event once it is available on Trellis.
