ON THE URANUS BRIDGE OR A GREETING TO WILLIAM HERSCHEL
Astro-photo-poem (cosmopoem) by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe
Ouranos or (Latinized) Uranus
means “sky” in ancient Greek
and is also the name for
the mythological god of the sky,
the 7th planet from the Sun
and a former bridge
over the Dambovita River in Bucharest,
which was demolished by the dictatorial regime
in the 1980s
and replaced with another one,
named “Izvor” (Water Source).
On July 3, 2020,
I tried to reconstruct (at least in my mind)
the memory of the local tradition,
transforming that bridge
into the planet Uranus
and its ice into water,
while the far Sun was blocked
by satellites.
However, I saw a solar reflection
in a block of flats
and I transformed it into
the satellite Oberon.
Finally. I transformed the Moon
into Uranus’ largest satellite,
Titania,
the queen of the fairies,
and I hoped in vain
to be abducted by them.
