International Astronomy Day in Barrington, RI
Astronomical Society of Southern New EnglandTo celebrate International Astronomy Day 2018, the Astronomical Society of Southern New England (ASSNE) will host a public day of observing on the lawn of Barrington, RI's town hall. We will have solar observing from1 pm to 5:30 pm, followed by night-time observing from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm, using a variety of telescopes. We will be looking at the moon, Venus, and "deep sky" objects like galaxies, open clusters, and planetary nebula.
This event is FREE and open to the public - adults and kids are welcome! This is our biggest event of the year, with upwards of 500 stargazers! We expect to have 15-20 telescope of all shapes and sizes out on the field.
Note that this event may be cancelled at short notice, in the event of bad weather. (It is a go if skies are clear to partly cloudy, cancelled if sky is mostly covered/rain. Please check the weather before you head out.)
Note that it's important to dress warmly (night-time temps fall fast) - closed shoes, a jacket and a hat are recommended. Do not bring a flashlight (not necessary). There is plenty of parking in the town hall lot.
