The town of Barlad (East Romania, the province of former Moldova principality) was famous in Romanian culture for a literary academy and theatrical activities, but since 2010 it has become unique.

With a population of only 55,000 inhabitants, it is the town with two major astronomical entities: the Sirius Astronomical Association (founded by teacher Ioan Adam in 2001 around the Mihai Eminescu High School) and the Perseus Astroclub (founded by Ciprian Vintdevara in 2010 around the Barlad Observatory) - each of them editing its own regular astronomical magazine: “Steps toward Infinity” and “Perseus”.

Dumitru Ciprian Vintdevara was initially a teacher of geography, then he re-orientated on astronomy, was the student of the eminent educator of astronomy Ovidiu Tercu (coordinator of Galati’s observatory and planetarium), became the coordinator of Barlad’s planetarium and observatory in 2010 and is a regular participant in the annual national conferences organized by the Romanian Society for Meteors and Astronomy (SARM).

He coordinates planetarium shows and organizes courses, public observations, camps of astronomy and national symposiums, along with the participation in global events about the Cosmos.

He also discovered a red nova (homologated in 2017) and a variable star (homologated in 2020).

During the time of GAM 2020 my time tunnel found that he took a few images at the Barlad Observatory (including Venus near the Pleiades and a famous stretch of galaxies of the Virgo Cluster), worked to finalize the magazine of the Perseus Astroclub and conceived an on-line astrophotography exhibition (which had to become “normal” at the observatory after the relaxation of the pandemic restrictions).

During a world crisis
Like a sanitary inquisition,
It is devotion to make astrophotography,
A magazine and an exhibition.
We are condemned to be always,
More or less,
Prisoners of something,
But now it’s up to us
To give the pandemic chains
For Markarian’s Chain.
