The World at Night (TWAN), a Special Project of the International Year of Astronomy 2009 administered by Astronomers Without Borders, is featured on the web site of the flagship news program of the USA's Public Broadcasting System, NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. The feature includes a slide show and interviews of AWB President Mike Simmons, TWAN Director Babak Tafreshi and TWAN photographer Wally Pacholka. Coverage of one of 24 exhibitions in shopping malls around the nation accompanies the slide show.

The exhibitions are sponsored by Developers Diversified Realty, a commercial real estate company that manages the 24 shopping centers. Each exhibition features 32 large images, including two large panoramas, accompanied by explanatory information. TWAN's still and time-lapse video images constitute the world's largest collection of quality landscape astrophotography, a photographic specialty that combines earthly scenes and the night sky. TWAN's team of 29 specialist photographers around the world have contributed more than 1000 images to the TWAN collection focusing on the world's most notable historic, cultural and natural landmarks beneath the night sky.

The NewsHour web-only feature focuses on mutliple themes demonstrated by TWAN images including the Astronomers Without Borders' motto of One People, One Sky and the importance of dark nighttime skies.
