Mike Simmons, President and Founder of AWB, will be the featured speaker for a public lecture at the famed Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington, USA on Saturday, January 19. Addressing an audience of museum visitors and supporters, Mike will describe how astronomy shows us our place in the Universe, and how observing the night sky around the Earth shows that we are “One People, One Sky.” He’ll also show how AWB programs connect the AWB community from locations worldwide.
Later that evening, Mike will be the guest speaker at the 2013 Annual Banquet of the Seattle Astronomical Society. In a presentation titled “One People, One Sky: Fostering Cross-Cultural Collaboration Through the Universal Appeal of Astronomy”, this presentation will focus on AWB programs that the Society can take part in along with others in the AWB global community.
The Museum of Flight is one of the largest air and space museums in the world, attracting more than 500,000 visitors annually. The Museum's collection includes more than
160 historically significant air- and spacecraft, the original manufacturing facility of The Boeing Co., and the world's only full-scale NASA Space Shuttle Trainer. The Museum's aviation and space library and archives are the largest on the West Coast. More than 100,000 individuals are served annually by the Museum's on-site and outreach educational programs.
Established in 1948, the Seattle Astronomical Society is one of the oldest such groups on the US west coast, and one of the larger ones with a membership of more than 200 individuals.
