Two Fun Observing Challenges
In the Footsteps of the Celestial Police is our first Observing Challenge Where you use nothing more than binoculars to hunt down the dwarf planet/asteroid Ceres in the night sky. Our friends at Astronomical League have provided a great guide to track Ceres from April 4 to 30 with an easy-to-use finder sky chart on our website here: https://astronomerswithoutborders.org/gam2018-programs/observing/4141-in-the-footsteps-of-the-celestial-police.html
With GAM having our Moon as its theme, it seems appropriate we have a special Lunar Exploration Observing Challenge for you. People have often fancied that the moon was an active world, even harboring life. Many observers, both professional and amateur, have believed that they stumbled onto visual evidence suggesting changes occurring on the moon, perhaps from vulcanism, perhaps due to life. Throughout April we have regions of the moon for you to explore with a telescope that have been the focus of many of these type of mysteries. You can find all the lunar charts on our website here: https://astronomerswithoutborders.org/gam2018-programs/observing/4140-lunar-explorations.html
