StarPeople has been organizing two Star Parties a year (Southern Hemisphere Autumn and Spring) at dark venues within 250 km of Cape Town since March 2011. This coming April (right in Global Astronomy Month) will be our 16th - there was a glitch in 2018 so we skipped Spring. We do other things too but this is our showpiece! is the largest Star Party in Southern Africa and attracts anywhere from 50 to 70 amateur astronomers. The event runs for six days bracketing a weekend with the talks and other organized events concentrated on Saturday and the rest of the time spent on individual & group observing and lots of discussions. We encourage the attendance of newbies and run a beginners program to introduce them to the wonders of a really Dark Sky.
