About Us

The Société astronomique de France (SAF), the French astronomical society, is a non-profit association, founded by Camille Flammarion in 1887. Its purpose is to popularize the sciences of the universe, to involve as many people as possible in their progress, and to promote the development and practice of astronomy. Its main activities include :

- the monthly magazine l'Astronomie

- public conférences

- astronomy courses

-  two observatories open to the public

-  11 specialised commissions 

- a specialised library including both historical and modern works 

-  an annual gathering of amateur astronomers (AstroCiel)
