AIG is an acroynom for Astronomy Interest Group. We are actually a subgroup under the Physics Club of the Department of Physics, Univeriti Putra Malaysia. Interest in astronomy in the Department began way back in 1986 when a well known celestial object (the Halley comet) came close to our Solar System for several months. The visit of Halley comet generated a lot of interests among the academic staff and students at the time but it was not until the coming of Hyakutake and Hale-Bopp comets in 1995-1997 that a more organised astronomy interest group was formally established. Since then AIG has been able to bring together interested parties both within the UPM campus and outside to organise talks, roadshows, presentations and of course star gazing sessions.
