First Place:
I HAD A BLUE SHOE THAT I FLEW TO THE MOON
BY BRENLON DILLARD, RENO, NEVADA, U.S.A.
I had a Blue Shoe that I Flew to the Moon.
That is where I found a Cocoon.
In the Sky I saw a Butterfly,
On its wings there was a Star.
I could tell it wasn’t Far.
It was part of Orion’s Belt.
At least, that is what I Felt.
It was Dark and I thought I heard a Bark.
Canis Major was having Fun.
The Greater Dog was on the Run.
Then I heard a Lion Roar.
I knew Leo was at the Door.
That made all the butterflies Soar.
It was sure a Sight,
Then it started getting Bright.
There came the day’s Sunlight!
I knew it was time to Go,
I had really enjoyed the Show.

Second Place:
STARS IN THE NIGHT
BY SYDNEY HUGHS-BAIRD, RENO, NEVADA, U.S.A.
The stars in the sky
Oh how they fly
With Pegasus, Draco, and Phoenix
Oh how they are bright
They light up the night
With Venus and Mars to assist them
Astronomers watch with joyful delight
As these constellations tell stories all night

Third Place:
JOURNEY OF THE PHOENIX
BY ELLIE AUDREY HUH, RENO, NEVADA, U.S.A.
The sun's fading rays shine down upon a golden bird,
as it spreads its fiery wings to lift off into the sunset,
that paints the blank canvas that is the sky,
with a rainbow of color.
As the bird skims over the river in the sky, Eridanus,
the bird’s wings barely brush the surface of the silvery stream,
as it leaves behind a trail of sparkles.
The black of the night is lit by the bird’s fiery glow,
and the only thing heard is the swish of the bird’s wings,
as it slowly reaches its destination.
The bird descends gently and lands near the Hunter, Orion,
its bright glow fading as day begins.
As it waits for the sunrise,
the bird folds its wings lightly,
and closes its eyes with weariness.
When the sun is full in the sky,
the phoenix bursts into flame,
and among the ashes a new bird rises,
ready for the flight back.

Honorable Mention:
NIGHT’S SPECIAL GIFT
BY GARRETT KRINER, RENO, NEVADA, U.S.A.
Stars, stars in the night sky,
When I blink¦ Look! They are like fireflies.
Blazing across the dark atmosphere
Comets burn, but I do not fear.
New places that have never been seen,
Planets and worlds no others have been.
Look! A star has fallen from its home,
Down to where I stand alone.
I bend down to pick up my special gift,
Its travel to Earth seemed so swift.
I hold it up to the night sky,
And remember when it was a firefly.

Honorable Mention:
I SAW A STAR
BY ELISE LARRUCEA, CALPINE, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A.
I saw a star
and caught it with my dipper,
but I think it would have been better
with salt instead of pepper.
