Nights of the Shooting stars 2012

Hello, On thursday 9th, many clubs gathered at the country's Space Camp, the Eurospace Center, near France and Luxemburg. For most of the afternoon, my PST was used to show details on the surface of the Sun and lots of people had a look at our star. I dressed up in my astronaut blue suit (at least I can do that once a year) and was interviewed by RTL-TVI, the french speaking national commercial TV station. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYKbkx3zMmY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2_C686Pt8Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4dWdDFNnWg Later, we went inside to avertize about our astronomy clubs (we have tables and cables for our PC's) and after sunset,... Some photo impressions from a little "AWB-Coordinator-Meeting" & something about borders

Caused by 2 things I decided to join this year EWASS (European Week of Astronomy and Space Sience, 1-6-July 2012)). The first was the short time e-mail invitation by Rosa Doran to AWB-members (from 14.05.2012) to join here GTTP Session at special EWASS-fee in combination with the special session devoted to European astronomy education and the second was the fact that I have dedected Thilinas name on the list of registered participants. So in the same night I had to decide and I booked online a train ticket and a cheap hotel in Rome and did my registration.... and it... Read More...

A NATURALIST LOOKS AT COMETS

A Naturalist looks at Comets (Reminiscences of a Sri Lankan Comet Chaser) Rex I. De Silva My interest in observational astronomy was first aroused when I bought a small terrestrial refractor in January 1968. With it and a copy of Norton's Star Atlas (1966 ed.) I commenced a personal survey of the night sky. More than two years passed before I saw my first comet. Perhaps in the long run this was a good thing as when a comet finally did appear I had a reasonably good working knowledge of the night sky and observing techniques. Comet Bennet arrived in... Sarah then used Stellarium to give a presentation on the planets and constellations that should be visible during April. A Planetarium show followed, but afterwards it was not clear enough for telescope viewing, although we were fortunate in seeing the ISS fly by! On April 14 th , around 20 people attended our “Yuri's Night”... Read More...
