Hagen TolleBad weather has spoiled almost all events for the GAM 2012! Only the 28/04/2012 was marked by good weather. We invited our guests to enjoy the stars on deck chairs , with a cool drink and smart music. At the same time April 28 was also the Austrian Astronomy . GAM 28th April on the Observatory in Michelbach/Lower Austria
The forecast predicted awesome weather to come, which is why 24 members with 17 telescopes stood prepared for our visitors. In the afternoon we welcomed around 40 children to our Antares Kids event. Enthusiastically the children experimented and crafted models, collected “meteorites” and launched air rockets and “comets”. Meanwhile their parents enjoyed coffee and cake at our Astro-Buffet and observing the sun in white light and H-Alpha. Our radio telescope – the only one at an Austrian public observatory – also attracted a lot of interest. From 7 pm on we started our evening program. It got really crowded then... Read More...

David Fuller18 months ago, I started making my "Eyes on the Sky" night sky videos for beginning / intermediate amateur astronomers to help them find things in the night sky under light polluted conditions. I always try to include naked eye, binocular and telescopic objects in every video. Global Star Party 2012 : Manila, Philippines

The Philippine Astronomical Society in collaboration with the National Museum Planetarium co-celebrated Global Star Party last April 28, 2012 at the Planetarium grounds and at the Rizal Park in Manila. Approximately 70 warm bodies of different ages and walks of life joined the event . Clouds were scattered through the sky but nevertheless gave way to treat the visitors with a good view of the Moon, Venus, Mars and Saturn. Pelo terceiro ano consecutivo, a Junta de Freguesia de Sandim em parceria com o Observatório Astronómico de Gaia (OAPB) e o Centro de Astrofísica da universidade do Porto (CAUP), realizou o Global Star Party do Mês Mundial da Astronomia 2012. A associação de Pais da escola EB1 Igreja nº2 de Sandim - Vila Nova de Gaia, promoveu, pelo segundo ano consecutivo, um evento inserido no Mês Mundial da Astronomia 2012. Mês Mundial da Astronomia – “Titã, uma Lua parecida com a Terra” - Lyrids Watch no OAPB
No dia 21 de Abril, o Observatório Astronómico de Gaia (OAPB) voltou a promover mais uma rubrica do Mês Mundial da Astronomia 2012, desta vez foi dedicado à maior Lua de Saturno,Titã, a única com uma espessa atmosfera no nosso sistema solar, cuja composição se assemelha à atmosfera primordial quando a vida despontava na Terra. O dia era propicio também à observação de estrelas cadentes da chuva de meteoros, as Liridas, mas não foi visualizada nenhuma, talvez devido à poluição luminosa e devido à neblina e algumas nuvens que incomodavam a observação. Mais uma actividade organizada pelo OAPB este Sábado, dia 14 de Abril, desta vez, infelizmente, o público não aderiu como se esperaria, durante o dia as condições meteorológicas não foram favoráveis à astronomia, mas à noite, apesar de algum vento e frio, o céu estava sem nuvens e com boa transparência.
