After daylight saving time organisms need to reset, so unintendedly I caught this morning the conjunction of Venus, Mars and Jupiter. I will try to catch a proper session , with tripod and filters, tomorrow morning, earlier than today. Obviously Venus isn't a double planet nor has any satellites, so there was a movement when pressing camera button. Read More...
The event named Zero Shadow Day was organized at Vadodara on 3rd June, 2015. The definition of noon in some text books is given as when the sun is overhead. Which actually is not the case of every day observation? The long shadows of objects at sunrise start becoming smaller and smaller as the day progress until the shadow is smallest. At this point the shadow is exactly aligned north - South. For those between the latitudes 23.5 deg. south (the tropic of Capricorn) and 23.5 deg. north (the tropic of Cancer) can experience the sun right overhead at Zenith... Read More...
Once again the conjunction is happened between three planets named Venus, Mars and Jupiter in end of the October. I have captured this event in my camera in early morning of 26th of October at 5:30 AM. Mars had very low magnitude so I caught only Venus and Jupiter. Once again the experience is fantastic. It is really pleasure to see such type of celestial dance of these cosmic bodies in to the space. Read More...
The beautiful conjunction occurred in the month of June, 2015 between two planets named Jupiter and Venus. These two planets are normally very popular for the event named Celestial dance. I have captured that moment in late evening after 8 O'clock. Read More...
In the month of October, there was a great conjunction occurred between the Moon- a natural satellite of Earth and four planets of our solar system named Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter. I have also captured a photo of that conjunction in early morning. In this photo, we can clearly see the conjunction between the planet Venus and Moon. Amazing Experience! Read More...
I was honored to be one of a handful of amateur and professional astronomers invited to bring our telescopes to the second White House Astronomy Night on the front lawn last Monday, October 19th (the first was held in 2009). Exhibitors were given 3 hours in the afternoon to set up, leaving us plenty of extra time for wandering the beautiful gardens and seeing the other displays. The crew responsible for growing salad on the International Space Station arranged their garden box under red lights, SpaceX and Occulus showed off cutting edge technology both visceral and virtual, and a huge... In 2014, project nightflight opened the first permanent star walk installation worldwide in Austria, Europe. The Grossmugl Star Walk is a self-guided tour encouraging astronomical observations with the unaided eye. Nine displays along the trail explain general astronomical topics in an easy-to-read way. On a 90 minutes' walk, visitors learn how to spot star colors, artificial satellites, the Milky Way and other objects in the night sky. The 1.5-km-long tour is free of charge, open all year round day and night and available without booking or reservation. The "Sternenweg Großmugl" was designed by project nightflight and built in close collaboration... Read More...

Once is not custom, but in South-East France we had a quite bad weather during the first time of this event, so a lot of the astro fellows decline the session, maybe too early. Anyway we had a triple program and achieve it: - making some timelapse of the full event, - crater timings sought were requested so make timings when the edge of the umbra crosses lunar markings, - and making watercolours of the general atmosphere in a nice landscape. For the first part, Antoine Altura was connected remotely with Michel Sarrau of the Brax observatory (near Agen, so... Read More...
The event organized by the Louis Cruls Astronomy Club, which I am a member, for the residents observe the eclipse, in the public square in the city center of Campos dos Goytacazes. It was a magical moment. Were so many people, of all ages and social class, and seven telescopes! The Louis Cruls Astronomy Club exists since 1996. Let's start by saying that we were lucky enough to see the initial part for this event. Weather has been behaving badly for astronomical adventures these months in the entire Central America region. So we were uncertain about the possibilty of watching the eclipse. But patience and perseverance paid back to us, at least for a while. In Nicaragua, amateur astronomers organized local events in their neighborhoods and towns instead of making a one-only event. Amateurs from Leon, Managua, Masaya and Granada were following the wheater development and posting their experiences on Facebook and Twitter. Franklin Antonio Mejia organized a... Read More...
Due to cloudy weather, there was no chance to make an observation of this year's Super-Moon-eclipse. At first the local weatherforecast in the north of our hometown Linz/AUSTRIA wasn't so bad ....... ........ but when we arrived at our observing location we had following scenery: So what could we do ? Hope dies last and we decided to stay to wait for some holes in the clouds ..... they didn't come :-( In the meantime we used a DSLR, using a 8mm lens and took some pictures showing the cloudy sky during the whole time. So we decided to make... Read More...
Here in Belgium, the weather was also very clear (but damp )and foggy early in the morning. We appeared on our frenchspeaking commercial national TV station RTL-TVI: http://www.rtl.be/videos/video/550405.aspx?CategoryID=4759 The field of Ramillies (it was a battlefield between the Duke of Marlborough and Louis XIV in mei 1706) is our favorite observation area: when it was full moon, the entire area was lit up by its glare but once the Moon got hidden by Earth's shadow, we could even see the Milky Way and numerous stars around the Moon ! This was the longest Moon eclipse I experienced and also at... Read More...
From September 4 - October 6, artists have come together to help a 4-year old boy named Aedan Pio who was diagnosed with chordoma - a rare type of cancer. The Philippine Lung Center and the Oxygen Art and Gallery Design is hosting an art exhibit for a cause entitled Dots in Space , to aid in raising funds for the necessary proton beam therapy ($250,000). This young boy loves to do water colors of the solar system, and dreams of becoming an astronaut. His paintings will be sold along with the paintings of the invited artists. The proceeds of... With Sounds of the Night we present a new category of astro images: nightscapes accompanied by natural sounds of the night, recorded during the imaging session. The sound of ocean waves, crickets chirping, nocturnal birds and many other nighttime sounds bring the pictures alive. If you watch the audio pictures, you will most likely notice a much stronger effect than traditional astrophotos cause. This happens because the audio pictures reach two channels of human perception. The visual channel is backed up by sounds, which easily triggers memories from first-hand experiences. Imagination then completes the illusion and the picture becomes the... Read More...

Last saturday, I was in Brussels at Palace 2 (Heyzel) for the opening of a Space expo (Gateway to Space) and a bit early at the entry and who comes at the entry? It took me a second to recognize them: Charlie and Dotty Duke! (I hoped it would turn out that way...Nobody else but the 3 of us for about 10 seconds). I quickly managed a question: no video exists from inside the LM on the surface of the Moon for all Apollo flights.....Ok, I had to let him in the museum and wait for the gates to open... Then the sun, our only star in solar system was studied. Concepts like light and warmth of the sun, physics of the sun, nuclear... Read More...
Once again we celebrated the world's largest global celebration of astronomy in Saadat-shahr through Global Astronomy Month 2015. Several education & observation programs were conducted by Astronomical Society of Pasargad Sky (ASPS) for Iranian and Afghan refugee students, families and other citizens, young and old, men and women, in schools, popular streets, parks, and even in world heritage site of Pasargad. We shared the stunning night sky above, and people enjoyed watching beautiful stars, moon, and planets during GAM2015. We beleive that astronomy is the strongest thing which can gather all of us around the world together as a big... Read More...
The Gallivants Tale We are the cosmos's wanderers, Amidst the pitched-black universe, Traipsing elsewhere to transverse, To yonder world without borders. Astounded by an abrupt flash, A pale blue dot appeared out of air, Which likewise known to be the lair- Of an assemblage taken a bash. Thy beauty deceit thy eyes, For such bounty shatter thy world, Constant conflagration kindled, To the core where innermost lies. Is this the honey and milk of life? Streaming from atrocities? We, Earthlings, got to cherish this pale blue dot, The last and only hope of humanity. Read More...
