Mercury Transit 2016

Hello everybody, Here in Belgium, we had a clear sky during the 3 first hours of transit, with a quality of the sky transparency of 9/10. Contacts 1 & 2 could be observed, and pictures were taken. Unfortunately, the sky then come quickly to be cloudy, and observations were definitively not possible. By tradition, the weather in Belgium is against any observation when something special is to observe, something like that Scottish-people well known ... So this time, it was a little different! I was in contact with my friend Michel Deconninck (Aquarellia) to prepare this event, and were very... Read More...

Mercury Transit 2016

We ( Northeastern College Astronomical Society) had glorious weather for the morning session, here in Trinidad ( in west indies). First telescope was set up by 7am and the ingress was viewed. A science organisation ( NIHERST) joined us with their Coranado Solar Telescopes. Over the course of the morning more than 230 persons ( mainly students) viewed Mercury's progress across the sun. From one of the Personal Solar Telescopes we could easily see prominances erupt from the sun's surface. By Lunch clouds rolled in and they decided to stay. It was a fantastic event and very well appreciated by... Read More...

Mercury Transit under clouds

We had a terrible bad weather here in Provence, this is really not common for the saison. At first we visit 4 class of the school of the village of Riez-la-Romaine. We can show them the phenomenon via the SIDC (Solar Influence Data Center) internet site, then we can show nice satellite views in real time. One hundred students were happy to receive answers to an astronomical number of questions. The main message from us was that this kind of transit is used with other stars, by the professionals, to find exoplanets. They like that! After the school we had... Read More...

New photo-story from Astronomía sin Fronteras

Marcia Deocares was enjoying a great evening in Trevelin, a small town by the Andes in central Patagonia (Argentina). Young gauchos were showing their skills at horse riding (left) before an excited crowd. Marcia then turned around and there she found the Full Moon right on top of the hills, as if riding them too. An unexpected connection between sky and field! There is more action every day at AWB's Spanish network: www.facebook.com/astronomossinfronteras Read More...
