Last year, 2015, I bought an astrograph telescope (254mm) online and other components recommended to go with it, including an EQ mount and photographic accessories. I've been actively imaging the night sky ever since; learning the field of astronomy and astrophotography. One of the things that fascinates me about the night sky is how wonderful it is, especially through a telescope that reveals all its glory and grandeur. The celestial objects are nothing less than a grand spectacular show, almost purposely display the need to be observed. During the Jupiter-Venus conjunction last year, I took my equipment out to our... Read More...

AWB's Facebook in Spanish is inviting fans to submit a photo together with a memory of it. A dear celestial object, a selfie at a star party, a sunset landscape, watching through a telescope for the first time, etc. Please add a BRIEF message telling us why it is significant to you, and where and when it was taken. Each photo will be published on our wall, but only 2 will be selected every two weeks. One will be chosen by our readers by "liking" them, and the other one by the editors of the page. Those selected will be... Read More...

Thursday, March 17 , we held the twelfth session of free public astronomical observations . Using an 8 inch newtonian telescope, we started with solar observations. Later, after sunset, we observed the Moon . Despite a fairly strong wind, the image was clear enough so that people could admire in detail the craters and mountains on the Moon's surface. Then we observed planet Jupiter. People noticed the cloud formations in the atmosphere of the biggest planet in the Solar System. Also, they could see four of its moons (Io, Europa, Callisto and Ganymede), two of them being very close to... Read More...

We just finished an on air show about basic astronomy in Equilibre FM (90.9 FM). This afternoon, we presented the dwarf planets, the comets, the kuiper belt, the trans-Neptunian Objets and the Oort cloud. It is in Haitian creole: you may see it on our Blog: http://haitiastronomie.blogspot.com/p/astronomie-en-equilibre.html or directly on Youtube ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXfF6T5jeO8 ). The archives of past emissions could be reached too: http://haitiastronomie.blogspot.com/p/archive-astronomie-en-equilibre.html This activity on radio has been possible thanks to the BIG project of Astronomers Without Borders. I would like to share what I think on dreaming big! I believe in going to Mars and I wish to be among the first ones to get there. Remember that it is always you who have to choose your dream. There is always something that interests you and you have to work towards it, inspiring people along the way. Let us start as students and end up serving the human race. Read More...
Then I got to visit the Sharjah center for astronomy and space sciences at Sharjah, UAE, where I met an astronomer named Ahmed whose words inspired me too. He told “so I'm an astronomer and you are an astronaut. Hoping to see you up there” Then I got to meet Astronaut Chris Hadfield who really helped me along my way to success, by providing me and the other aspiring astronaut in the world with videos of living in zero G, that really helped. I met him after his talk in Dubai about his journey. The most inspiring part was when... Read More...
There I met the Mars Mission project manager MR. Omran Sharaf and a few of the other people who work at MBRSC, their words were inspiring, they gave me a push like never before. Then came up an opportunity to be a part of the newly launched non-profit, called The Mars Generation, by Astronaut Abby. I joined it as an ambassador and then I was given a chance at my school to talk about the need for space travel and it went well except my voice. Then I got recognized at my school as an astronaut in training and after... Read More...
a few months after I met Astronaut Abby I got to know UAE's gonna send a probe to Mars and that is when I knew UAE had a space agency, then I got a message from MR. Ibrahim Al Qasim, the deputy project manager of the Emirates Mars Mission and the project manager of the Nayif-1 cube sat mission, asking me to visit the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC). I was really excited. Then the next year they had a space event called Mission: Space at downtown Dubai. There I met the Mars Mission project manager MR. Omran Sharaf... Read More...
2014 was the year all my hard work started to pay off, During the test launch of Orion space craft the announcer said some words that were really emotional and inspiring he said something like, “Go delta. Go Orion. This is the dawn of Orion, the dawn of America's new age of space travel” the following year I joined twitter as an aspiring astronaut and got to know many kids who had the same dream and I started to get noticed. The first person I met was Mackenzie as @JrAstronaut who supported me and inspired me. Then I met Astronaut... Read More...
At a very young age around my 7th year of standing on this planet, I dreamt of travelling through the stars. Right now I live in the United Arab Emirates, where 6 years ago when I was a third grader during a science class on the solar system, I happened upon a picture of the Milky Way and at that moment our teacher was explaining about living in space. After the class I went through what had been taught that day and I wanted to be a part of NASA's space program, so I talked to people around me and... Read More...
AOYA kids have skilfully captured this wide field image of the constellation Orion with much of its surroundings in the western skies right after nightfall. The Zodiacal Light is very evident in this image too as it stretches in the bottom up untill the middle of the frame. In the coming few days our dedicated members will continue their efforts to capture more vivid images of this interesting celestial phenomenon. Of course phtography through a telesopes will never serve this purpose, therefore our kids will endeavour to capture it through a low power camera body and zoom only. Read More...
