"Facts about the Cosmos",Benghazi, Libya
Among the several educational activities done by Roaya assembly, a lecture entitled " Facts about the Cosmos" was held at a secondary school in Benghazi, on 17th of April, 2016. The lecture was presented by two of Roaya youngest members, Ali Azzentani and Yousef AbdulAziz. Ali and Yousef are students at a secondary school and are both amateur astronomers. Cassi UbertyThe 8 inch Orion Dobsonian Telescope was the star of the Global Star Party held last night at The Lovin' Cup Bistro by R.I.T. in Rochester, NY. The beautiful clear night allowed everyone to see closeups of the Moon and the moons of Jupiter. Celebrating 2016 Global Star Party

Adults, Youngsters and Kids, enjoyed to observe the Moon and Jupiter, they showed their interest to learn and have a better understanding about Planets, Moon and Sun. The Manila Street Astronomers already conducts free telescope viewings twice a month from October to May (during the First Quarter and the Full Moon). Public Star Party, Los Angeles, CA, USA
The Los Angeles Astronomical Society held their monthly Public Star Party on the lawn of the Griffith Observatory on Saturday, April 16, 2016. From 2 PM to sunset, our members provided solar scopes for the public and demonstrated safety techniques for safe solar observing. After the sun set, our members focused their telescopes and biinoculars on other objects in the night sky. Due to windy conditions, observing the night sky was not at an optimum level but the star party was a success with the large crowd of over 1,500 visitors to the observatory. Yesterday evening hundreds of visitors could catch a glimpse through our telescopes set up at the main square of Linz ( the hometown of the famous astronomer Johannes Kepler from 1612-1626 ). For most of them it was the first time look through a telescope for their life. Neighborhood Global Star Party in Parsonsfield, Maine, USA
Both the astronomy clubs that I belong to didn't organize a star party for the same evening as the Global Star Party, so I did a neighboorhood star party in front of my house. There were only 3 people who came to look through the telescope, but all three of them were thrilled to see Jupiter with its bands and moons and the craters and mountains on the moon. Jupiter from Himalaya High Altitude Site

sam gibbsOn my last night in the Himalayas i was finally able to get a little time to do some personal observations after the camp series had finished. Despite the wind and near freezing conditions i was able to capture nice images of Jupiter using double stacked 2x barlows, the I Nova PLAC2 camera attached to a 8' Celestron HD Edge and several blankets. These are wihtout question the highest resolution photos i have ever been able to manage. Post processing was completed with Registax and Gimp. Read More...

sam gibbsWe have recently concluded a month long series of Astronomy Camps from our high altitude site (2300m) in the Himalayas. During this time we hosted student groups from Kolkata India and Lahore Pakistan. All in 60 students attended 3 consecutive camps held from late March to mid of April. Conditions at the campsite (Jungle Livinn Resort) are exceptional. This region is well known for its consistent clear skies and steady seeing conditions. Tuesday, April 12 2016, Vâlcea Astronomy Club held another Sidewalk Astronomy event in Râmnicu Vâlcea, Vâlcea County, Romania. Despite the clouds that occasionally covered the sky, the people who passed through downtown were able to see planet Jupiter with its four Galilean moons and craters, mountains and maria on the surface of our own Moon. Planning for Yuri's Night 2016 in Haiti
We are actively preparing the worldwide celebration Yuri's Night, remembering the adventure of the first man who went to space. We plan two days for that celebration: April 12, 2016 at Bon Repos (near Port-au-Prince): It is a 2 part party. Recently a new camera hit the market that will set off a small revolution in astronomy and astrophotography.
