Every year, more than 100.000 visitors participate in Austria's annual Science Night. During this special night, thousands of scientists present their work to the public at more than 250 locations like university institutes, museums and private research facilities. The Austrian Science Night is one of Europe's largest science events for the public. This year, outdoor temperatures were favorable and the sky was at least partly clear. That is why the Science Night motivated a lot of people to come to the Vienna Observatory, home of Vienna's Astrophysical Institute. I organized a star party at Jamnagar on 16 Apr 2016 as part of Global Star Party of GAM 2016. The program was to show the constellations, zodiac belt and telescope observation. People show the Moon and Jupiter with its moons by a 6" reflector telescope. My computer science student helped me at site for management. We recorded the contact details of people who were more insterested in astronomy. Many people asked to show other objects in sky and many asked about when our next such program will be. Approx 350+ people of age range 8-70 participated in program. Read More...

Jesús captured this stunning view from a site 4,000 m above sea level in the Province of San Juan (Argentina). At the far right, you can see Antares. Further left, there are the three stars that make Scorpius' pincers and, below them, planet Mars. Unaware of the stars, residents of Barreal city endure a wind and dust storm, a common occurrence in that region. This photo-story was our choice from those submitted to Astronomía sin Fronteras , the AWB... Read More...
