“It was one the most beautiful Lunar Eclipses”, is the feedback we are seeing from around the globe. Even from the locations where the eclipse was not visible was able to view it online thanks to many webcasters. We invite AWB affiliates and members who organized outreach sessions, webcasts, or took photographs/video to submit them to AWB to share them with rest of the world. To submit your event reports/photos/videos on AWB Members' Blog, just log into your account on the AWB website , click on the Blog tab on your profile page and start posting. Be sure to tag... Report by Valentin Grigore. President of SARM - Societatea Astronomica Romana de Meteori (Romanian Society for Meteors and Astronomy) National Coordinator of AWB for Romania - Astronomers Without Borders After a snowing night of Quadrantids, eclipse started in same conditions here in Targovste, Romania: cloudy and light snow. After 1 hour appeared the first breaks in clouds. We installed our scopes for the public in the city center (near the Christmas tree, in the Santa Claus City). Four local and four national TVs were present. During the eclipse all the time was a light snow, so we saw the eclipse... Read More...

The 18th started out with very bright sunlight in Kingston and we expected a good night. But by 6 PM clouds started to gather. We however went to our site at Up Park Camp at six and set up Telescopes. There were intermittent Clouds over the Moon and Venus. While waiting for the clouds to open, we advised the guests to watch with a clearance in the West North West for the appearance of the Space Station On the dot of 6.50pm. Someone shouted and it appeared in small gap in the clouds. It went behind the cloud but reappeared... Read More...

The event happened during the 17th and 18th nights at Gonçalves Dias Square in Sao Luis, Brazil. Promoted for Sociedade de Astronomia do Maranhao and the partners GEAST and UEMA. About 425 people could see the moon through a telescope. We had a very good weather and the temperature was about 25ºC. - Manuel R. J. Costa (Brazil) Read More...
Hey there, fellow Astronomers Without Borders... We tried to hold our Star Party at The Tiger Boys Open House, (a fly-in for antique aircraft held at Guelph AirPark in Ontario, Canada) on the Saturday night, but it started pouring rain right at sunset. Rather than give up, we opted to try again the following night and were rewarded with exactly the opposite conditions – the clouds departed at sunset! I had my friend, Gord Skerratt's, 10” Meade LX-200 – equipped with the sensational MallinCam – locked onto the Moon before the sun went down. So people leaving the Air Show... Read More...

Astronomers Without Borders was there with a booth in a large exhibition of images from The World at Night . To celebrate InOMN, the Astronomy Outreach Foundation, a new astronomy industry group created to increase interest in amateur astronomy, held a public Moon Party. A very successful InOMN, we all ran to the scopes through out the night when the Moon popped out the clouds, NASA had a lot of built in "HOLDS" for this Night. In the end everyone enjoyed the Event and wanting more. Michael Uberty (AWB Member - NY, USA) Read More...
A severe and lengthy rainstorm over Accra threatened to wash out International Observe the Moon Night at the Ghana Planetarium, but luckily the rain stopped in mid-afternoon, just in time for the 5pm start of our event. The attendees were a good mixture of families with children, Physics students from the University and others including many for whom it was the first visit to the Planetarium. We started with a short cartoon (from the UNAWE website), “Who Saved the Moon” which was enjoyed by all. We then went through the “Earth-Moon statistics” presentation from the InOMN website, using young volunteers... Read More...
The clubs here didn't organize anything for this event sadly, and I was gone for the week before and not there to spur things on. So, I took my 10 inch Dob to the little tiny strip mall in the next village and did a small event there. It was late and not many people around but 4 adults and 2 teenagers got a good look at the moon, Jupiter, and Uranus, which was a thrill to them since none of them had ever looked through a telescope before. - Joan Chamberlin Greater Portland Astronomical Society Astronomical Society of Northern... Here in our city we had the sky with clouds and wasn't possible to see the Moon. We organized a video-conference in honor of prof. Marcomede Rangel Nunes. We used the Astronomers without Borders Adobe system. Thanks Mike and Paul!!! Was an unforgettable experience. We had participants from 3 countries and from many Brazilian States. Many people and groups participated only for few minutes and many participated for more time. I made the registration of a part of the participants (I apologize to the other participants, but I only made the registration few minutes before we finished the video-conference. Was... Read More...

All seven moon viewing events in Ireland were clouded out, everyone was very disappointed not to be part of InOMN 2010. They all called for the event to be more than one day next year to give us a chance of a clear sky. - Deirdre Kelleghan ( AWB NC for Ireland) Read More...
Here is the illustration of how we do what we do. The moon on the ceiling is a rough composite to show the setup. The camera/adapter/lense combination is a temporary setup to show what's possible. Any old camera lense and telescope eyepiece seems to work, and just needs an adapter tube. I plan on that setup being a guiding system with a screen available to the public also, to see the objects ahead of the actual naked eye view, at public events. With NSN we have a facility that works, it also works well for re-streaming, and we now know... Read More...
With much difficulty with wind and clouds, we manage to put a telescope in San Martin Square for InOMN. Well, a rotten night over much of New Zealand for InOMN, but we went ahead with the indoor portion of our event in Levin anyway. Only a small number of people braved the weather to pay us a visit, and many would've assumed that it would not have been on at all. Anyway, we had an enjoyable night, and those that did come and see us didn't leave disappointed. I have put together a video of the event, which can be found at:- Mike White Levin, New Zealand Read More...
Broadcast the moon about 40 mins after local moonrise, as soon as it got above the mountains and clouds. Had massive gales and rain and long blue clear patches, a cold snap, and had to cancel outdoor events. All good though, built new relationships and strengthened older ones, had extensive communications with our astro communities here, many positive responses, although some big gaps of nothing still! Webcast on and off live for first 4 hours, broadcast recorded moon for another 4hrs because massive cloud, and also shared Australian stream for a few hours. Managed to webcast the last of our... The 3rd "Seasons without Borders" (SwB) concluded successfully last June 2010 celebrating the beginning of winter/summer seasons in the southern and northern hemispheres. In typical AWB tradition, groups from Brazil, Canada, Iraq, Iran, Japan, New Zealand, Pakistan, Portugal, Uruguay and USA gathered and celebrated the solstice under the theme "Two seasons, One earth, One people". Amateur Astronomers Association of Kurdistan/Iraq (AAAK) celebrated the Solstice at Minara Park in Erbil City, Iraq, where they also hosted the World Music Day Festival. The park was full of foreigners listening to music and looking through the eyepiece of telescopes. It was reported that... Read More...
