A Match under Starlight in Iraqi Kurdistan Region Finally after long time of announcing and preparing for it, here we are, in the day of play the match on July 7 2010. Players arrived and before the match beginning we made a small opining ceremony, standing with respect beside the flags of the countries that agree to joining in that activity and listening to their national anthems, even if they couldn't made it for a reason or another, still they are AWB's most active people! Today... when I went back home, the sky was cloudy but I could see the sun behind trees. So I try to catch it with my camera. While I set up my camera on a tripod, my neighbors came around and started to ask me what am I doing? I was quiet surprise since in the neighborhood I live in, people barely know each other or have close relation ship. Something I don't really like from living in a big city. Now we are in a new AWB websites with new style too. It has social network stuff for all of us. Well almost like facebook but this one also has a blog section. In facebook we had a notes. So.. how to blog? for the content I think most of the people knows what he/she wants to write. but what I love about blog is, you can express your feeling / activities and stories to other. On June 21 st I set up my telescope in front of my house right on the street and invited all my neighbors to come celebrate the summer solstice by looking at the moon, Venus, and Saturn in my telescope. Because it gets dark so late, I spent some time explaining how my telescope works, showing them how much sky they would be looking at, and letting them look through a card that shows field of view. After a very hot week with temperatures reached to 47C degree! Finally the weather conditions became excellent. Wonderful day it was! When we went to Minara Park in the middle of Erbil city for our SWB3 activity, music was every where inside the park! That's because French Cultural Center celebrated with World Music Day which it is on June 22 in every year. There were too many foreign guests from Germany, Japan, USA, Iran and France and from governorates of southern of Iraq. Astro Quiz Contest 2010, April 1-30,2010 Nepal Astronomical Society(NASO) in collaboration with National TV asked four questions related to the astronomy with three options from National television during the GAM2010. People voted by sending sms as GAM_A/B/C to 4321. We announced winners every Saturday. The questions were: Where does Chhatedhunga lie in Nepal? What is the distance between the Sun and the Earth? Before, during and after GAM 2010, the Romanian Society for Meteors and Astronomy (SARM) presented, in a number of Romanian areas (Targoviste, Gorj County, Iasi, Sighet, Cluj County, Bucharest etc.), a rich diversity of public and observational events—including Earth Hour, Solar Week, Saturn Watch, Lunar Week, Star Peace, Lyrid Watch, Earth Day, and Astronomy Day, plus sidewalk star parties and public-education efforts in the fight against light pollution. In preparation for The distribution of GALILEOSCOPES to schools in Jamaica, The Astronomical Association of Jamaica decided that instead of having a “Star Party” for each school to establish “Astro Clubs”, it was decided to group the schools in the area and provide a safe site for the event for the first of these arrangements were made with LT. On April 30th 2010 was my rescheduled date for the Global Star Party. It started out cloudy when people started arriving so we discussed AWB and general Astronomy. Then one at a time Venus came into view along with the rest of the night sky. We viewed Venus then Mars and M44 the Beehive Cluster, at that time the ISS flew over head and many questions were asked. Hi, Last month, I was for 12 days at the Reunion Island in The Indian Ocean, 21 degrees below the equator and 800 km east of Madagascar....My first trip in the Southern Hemisphere , with 5 other friends, among which 3 other members of the Astroclub Vega ! On 24.5.2010 we arrived at Kayseri and visited the Erciyes University. Dr. Ferhart Fikri Özeren welcomed us very warming and open-hearted. On Friday April 30, Deirdre Kelleghan and the Hubble 20th Anniversary print visited Jane Ahern's 4 th class at St Brigids National School in Greystones Co, Wicklow, Ireland. Deirdre was invited by Ann Lee, the class Special Needs Assistant, to showcase the Hubble image. The huge 5- by 8-foot print shows a section of the Carina Nebula in fantastic detail. The Carina Nebula is one of the places in our galaxy where new stars are born, flexing the tremendous power of nature, creating new solar systems with awesome energy. Thousands of lights twinkled, not above me but below, as I descended into Los Angeles on April 4 of last year. The 24-hour Global Star Party of IYA2009's 100 Hours of Astronomy Cornerstone Project was underway. As many as a million people viewed Saturn's rings and the Moon's craters through telescopes worldwide. On 29.4.2010 I arrived withe my AWB-CAR in Damsacus where Dr. Firas Safadi has perfectly organised the SAAA-AWB -Starparty. I had the opportunity to speak to a big auditorium and he translated to arabic language. I told about the mission of AWB and made a invitation to SAAA (Syrian Amateur Astronomer Association) to join AWB. I made a little present ( a limited edition Austrian poststamp containing real meteorit dust in its print) to Mohammed Al-Assiri the president of SAAA. On Global Astronomy Night, April 24, I hosted a star party in Los Angeles where we had a perfectly clear sky, nine telescopes, and a congregation of about 200 neighbors and their children. It was, in fact, a perfect night-and, ignoring Saturn, I kept my telescope pointed at the moon all evening. What I remember most about it is how one 5-year-old girl jumped up and down around my telescope, shouting "The moon, the moon, I love the moon!"
